Sofia Monsalve appointed as expert at IPES-Food

Sofia Monsalve, FIAN International’s Secretary General, becomes new member of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems.

Joining a strong, multi-disciplinary field of renowned experts from across the globe, Sofia Monsalve is now part of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food). Founded in 2015, IPES-Food has been shaping the debate on food systems reform through scientific reports and detailed policy recommendations.

The panel of experts comprises environmental scientists, development economists, nutritionists, agronomists and sociologists, as well as experienced practitioners from civil society and social movements. Since its creation, its analyses have weighed in on policy-making processes and have been widely featured in international media.

Commenting on her appointment as expert of the IPES-Food, Sofia Monsalve says: “I am very excited to join because the panel takes a systemic approach that recognizes the complex and interconnected nature of challenges in food systems, and the power relations that shape decision-making. Human rights have an important role to play in building sustainable, healthy and just food systems. Sharp, critical and creative thinking around these issues is more important than ever.”
