Testimonies of Human Rights Violations in the Bajo Aguán, Honduras

According to national and international organizations that follow this situation, 53 persons linked to the peasant organizations of the Bajo Aguán, plus a journalist and his partner, have allegedly been murdered between September 2009 and August 2012 in the context of an agrarian conflict.

In addition, one peasant has been missing May 15, 2011.  Most recently, on September 22, 2012, Antonio Trejo Cabrera, who was the legal representative of the Movimiento Auténtico Reivindicador Campesino del Aguán (MARCA), and who had worked tirelessly to defend the rights of the peasant communities in the region of the Bajo Aguán was shot by unidentified person in Tegucigalpa.

The event was convened by nine international networks and organizations that have monitored the human rights situation in Honduras and in particular in the Bajo Aguán.
