Philippines: More than 2000 farm workers are excluded from agrarian reform program in Cojuangco hacienda, Negros Occidental, the Philippines
More than 2,000 farm workers from Negros Occidental province have been excluded from becoming agrarian reform beneficiaries on more than 5,000 hectares of agricultural land (Cojuangco hacienda). They have filed a Petition for Inclusion before the Department of Agrarian Reform in 2000. However, only 36 petitioners were approved. The remaining farm workers have filed a Motion for Reconsideration but until today no decision has been made.
International support for more than 2,000 farm workers is urgently needed so that they will become farmers beneficiaries and be able to feed themselves and their families. Please write a polite letter to the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, requesting her to act in favour of the farm workers.
