Peasants Need More Protection – Advocacy Note
This document summarizes the arguments regarding why it is crucial to give peasants more protection. It is addressed to all CSOs who want to support the efforts to convince states to take action and support concrete measures for the protection of the rights of peasants during the 21st HRC session, as well as to governments themselves.
The UN Human Rights Council (HRC), in its 21st session in September 2012, decided on measures to protect the human rights of peasants. FIAN, together with the international peasant movement La Vía Campesina and other civil society organizations, has been calling upon the UN to adopt an International Convention on the Rights of Peasants for many years.
