On the 26 November 2012, 42 human rights organizations, with the support of FIAN International, issued a common public statement addressed to the international community on the situation involving political prisoners captured in Paraguay after the Curuguaty massacre, which took place on the 15 June 2012 in Paraguay.
The organizations expressed their support for the 10 prisoners who were on hunger strike for 2 months to protest their arbitrary detention and the violations of their right to due process of law. The statement is based on the outcomes of an international fact finding mission conducted by some of the signatory organizations. In the document they ask for compliance with the state obligations to ensure the due process of law for the detained persons, and demand the implementation of the right to adequate food for the affected communities in the region.
