India: 10,000 people continue to suffer from lack of safe drinking water supply in Jai Bheem Nagar in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh

Jai Bheem Nagar (JBN) is a slum in Meerut city with a population of 10,000 people. The slum residents do not have access to safe drinking water and are therefore compelled to consume water contaminated with heavy metals like chromium, cadmium, lead, iron and mercury. The slum dwellers claim that the consumption and use of the polluted drinking water has caused cases or diarrhoea and skin diseases amongst the population.
