Human Rights Violations in Guatemala
On 21 June, Maria Josefa Macz, an indigenous and peasant representative and member of La Via Campesina Guatemala, with the support of FIAN International and Catedra Unesco from Barcelona, presented an oral intervention to the UN - Human Rights Council interactive dialogue with the working group on Transnational Companies and Human Rights, evidencing diverse cases of human rights violations in Guatemala.
The intervention highlighted cases in which transnational companies are involved in Guatemala, referred to States obligations, both territorial and extraterritorial and called for the implementation of effective accountablity mechanisms for states on this kind of violations, as well as for the application of the Maastricht ETO Principles in the area of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
