Honduras: Attacks and threats to the right to food of fishermen in Cayos Cochinos
On 7th of November, 2007, a military officer of the Honduran Navy shot with his service rifle at the ankle of the Garifuna fisherman Mauricio Reymundo Santos Córdoba, while the latter was catching fish with other fishermen in Cayos Cochinos, belonging to the Bay Islands in the Caribbean Sea of Honduras. This is just one of the many attacks suffered by the Garifuna community in Cayos Cochinos since the Fundación Cayos Cochinos and the Honduran Navy installed their headquarters in that area and tried to prevent the community from getting its food from the sea, which they have been doing for over 200 years, when they first settled on the Honduran coasts.
