FIAN Demands Filipino Government Take Action to Fight Hunger

FIAN Philippines, together with the National Food Coalition (NFC), call upon the government to take action with respect to abnormally high levels of chronic hunger in the country.

Lack of a comprehensive national food policy in the Philippines is contributing to this problem.

According to the Food and Agriculture Association, there are currently 870 million people in the world who do not have enough to eat and one in every eight individuals goes to sleep hungry every day.

“?It is worse in the Philippines. One in every six Filipinos is experiencing daily the world?s number one health risk ? hunger,”? said Aurea Miclat-Teves, NFC Convenor.

FIAN Philippines and the NFC demand that concrete proposals with regard to hunger be drafted together with the full and active participation of stakeholders, including those most vulnerable to hunger.
