European Right to Food Summer School, 3-8 June, Berlin

The European Right to Food Summer School aims at bringing together international experts, human rights activists, students and engaged individuals and provides advanced training on right to food, accountability and justiciability issues.

Who should apply:

This training aims to suit the needs of all those who show an interest to get in-depth training and to become engaged in practical action on the human right to food, accountability and justiciability

Aim and objectives of the training:

  • Participants will be trained to become human rights defenders
  • This advanced training will provide experienced human rights activists, as well as new comers, members of the academia and staff of NGOs, with in-depth knowledge on economic, social and cultural rights (ESC rights), especially on the right to adequate food and comprehensive knowledge on the issue of accountability and justiciabilty


What we offer:

  • Introduction to the right to food in the context of international human rights law
  • Conceptual lectures and exercises on accountability and justiciability of the right to food
  • The importance of the Optional Protocol to the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
  • Methodological inputs and training on documentation of right to food violations
  • Excursion to governmental departments/ministries working on right to food issues
  • Participants who succesfully complete their follow-up activity will be rewarded with a certificate

What we expect:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Previous knowledge and/or high interest in the topic
  • Participants are asked to carry out a follow-up activity (production of a fact-sheet and/or organizing a workshop on right to food, accountability and justiciability)


Practical Information:

The Summer School will be held in Berlin, close to the city centre (http://www.kaubstrasse.de/)
The training fee for this 5-day intensive program is 250 €. The fee includes: tuition costs, training materials, full board and lodging (accommodation in shared rooms). Not included are travel costs or any additional costs that you may incur during your stay in Berlin.
