Brazil: Forced eviction of indigenous Tupinikins y Guaranís from their lands by federal police and Aracruz Cellulose corporation, Aracruz, Espírito Santo.
In a violent operation assisted by Aracruz Cellulose corporation, the federal police on January 20 destroyed and burnt down the houses of the indigenous communities of Córrego D´Ouro e Olho D´Água. These Tupinikin y Guarani families were forcibly evicted from their lands. Several persons were injured.
The defence of their lands is urgently necessary in order to guarantee the right to feed themselves for the indigenous communities in the region. Please write a letter to the Minister of Justice, Márcio Thomaz Bastos and to the President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, asking them to finally sign the regularization of the indígenous Tupinikins y Guaranis territories in this state and to persecute those who are responsible for the violent expulsion on the 20th of January.
