Agrocombustibles y derecho a la alimentación en América Latina
An increasingly important share of so-called bioenergy today is produced from agricultural crops, which are traditionally used for food and feed. The cultivation of non-food energy crops also requires land and water. This ceates direct competition for the resources to feed the world`s population in a situation where 854 million people are already suffering hunger and malnutrition, most of them living in rural areas. The effects of agrofuel production an the enjoyment of the Human Right to Adequate Food (RtF) of the most marginalized groups and communities should be considered before implementing policies and progammes which promote investment, trade and use of agrofuels.
