Caravan for Land, Water and Seeds to mobilize West Africa

A caravan by the Global Convergence of Land and Water Struggles – West Africa will go across the region to get the voices of communities heard and engage national authorities in the realization of the right to food and all related rights. Departing from Burkina Faso on 3 March, the Caravan will mobilize 15 countries in the region and carry out advocacy activities. With the finishing line in Dakar, it will culminate its journey at an international conference by the Global network for the Right to Food and Nutrition.

"" "" An International Fact Finding Mission (FFM) headed by the Global Network for the Right to Food and Nutrition (GNRtFN) visited tea plantations in Assam and West Bengal from 27th November 2015 to 4th December 2015. The objective of the Mission was to investigate the status of the human right to food and nutrition and related rights of tea plantation workers and the role played by the management of tea estates, companies and the government bodies.

"" "" Parallel to the climate conference in Paris, social movements and allies within the ‘Global Convergence of Land and Water Struggles’ stood up for climate justice and real solutions to the climate crisis. The Convergence and its members underlined that this is not about alternatives; but real solutions. These real solutions to the climate crisis will not come from the current industrial model, but are anchored in local community practices – and are being developed and lived by communities every day the world over.
