The   latest attack against Guarani-Kaiowá Ñande Ru Marangatú community on 29 August, in Brazil, demonstrates this trend. Within this context, FIAN International and other European and Brazilian CSOs issued a joint statement, calling on the EU and the Brazilian government to support a treaty on TNCs with regard to human rights, and that the Brazilian government conduct investigations into the attack.   Read more… UN HRC urged to extend IGWG mandate towards future rural world declaration Civil society calls for a 3-year extension of the mandate of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Living in Rural Areas to facilitate the continuity of the process. La Vía Campesina (LVC), backed by FIAN International, and other civil society groups call on the Human Rights Council to ensure that discussions and negotiations take place without unnecessary obstacles.   Read more… Bringing Nepalese voices to Europe ahead of UPR Human rights records in Nepal will be reviewed for the second time by the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), on November 4. Despite recommendations made by this UN mechanism in 2011, a high number of Nepalese continue to be prevented from enjoying their right to adequate food and nutrition. FIAN International and its section in Nepal stress the need to implement previous recommendations by adopting a comprehensive national strategy to ensure food and nutrition security for all, particularly for marginalized and disadvantaged groups of society.   Read more… Indigenous Peoples: entitled to rights despite national law Although UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has repeatedly underlined the importance of respecting and fulfilling the rights of Indigenous communities, scores of cases around the world demonstrate there is still a long way to go. It is estimated that there are more than 370 million indigenous people spread across 70 countries worldwide. FIAN International put their alarming plight in Bangladesh under the spotlight.   Read more… Monitoring the Governance of Land, Fisheries and Forests In response to the recent wave of land grabbing and plundering, the concentration of land and water in the hands of a few powerful entities, as well as the growing privatization and commoditization of nature, a “Monitoring Tool” was officially launched in Panama City.
