Guarani and Kaiowá rights backed by EP while stepping into IACHR

At its monthly plenary session in Strasbourg, ""  the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution on the situation of the Guarani and Kaiowá indigenous peoples, characterized by increasing violence and the grabbing of traditional lands. With Brazil in political turmoil and the indigenous peoples even more under threat, the resolution reminds the Brazilian State of its obligations under national and international law. Parallel to these developments, Guarani and Kaiowá leaders from Brazil and supporting organizations will attend the 159th period of sessions of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to stand up for their right to ancestral territory, also known as tekoha.

The report came at a timely moment, amid recent EU trade deals and giant mergers of seed industry on the horizon (Bayer & Monsanto; ChemChina & Syngenta; DuPont & Pioneer) that risk taking away the power and autonomy of the people.

Despite succeeding in fostering social and economic progress, as well as improving human development indicators, socio-political gaps still need to be filled to ensure the realization of the rights of women and girls. With inequalities in income and consumption increasing, malnutrition continues to pose a challenge for Bangladesh.

"" "" The Global Convergence of Land and Water Struggles released its first report to boost political consciousness and support mass based movements in their resistance against the privatization agendas. During a public event held in Paris in December 2015 at the time of the COP21, representatives of frontline communities discussed and denounced the false solutions to the climate crisis, and promoted the real solutions that are rooted in peoples’ knowledge and experiences.
