FIAN at the World Social Forum 2015 in Tunis

FIAN International participates at the World Social Forum 2015, which takes place this year from 24 to 29 March 2015 in Tunis.

FIAN International will particularly be involved in two spaces of the World Social Forum 2015: The Space of the Global Convergence of Land and Water Struggles and the Global Convergence of Resistances to Corporate Power.

The     Space of the Global Convergence of Land and Water Struggles aims at uniting all the struggles of social and grassroots movements and their allies for Land and Water and against the criminalization of human rights defenders thereof. Moreover, it also seeks to develop a Global Convergence of Land and Water Struggles.

Together with the social movements and other organizations promoting the Dakar Declaration from 2014, "Rights to Water and Land, A Common Struggle", FIAN International participates at the space of convergence during the World Social Forum in Tunis.

This space will have joint sessions in the mornings of March 25th, the 26th and the 27th and an assembly of convergence on March 28th to share experiences of water and land struggles at national and international level, as well as to build together the future of the Global Convergence.

On the other hand, the     Global Convergence of Resistances to Corporate Power is a collective effort of several organisations, including FIAN International, aiming to create synergies between different struggles around the world. They all share confrontation with corporate power and capture of decision making spaces in the areas of food and nutrition, access to natural resources, territories, labour rights, and trade and investment agreements, among others.

In addition to a series of workshops on topics such as the peoples' treaty process of the Dismantle Corporate Power Campaign and the negotiations within the UN Human Rights Council for a binding instrument to regulate transnational corporations and other business enterprises, there will be a convergence assembly on the 27th of March.
