Intern to assist the Permanent Representation of FIAN at the UN Human Rights System.

The intern will assist in the following tasks:

  • Support advocacy work at the UN Human Rights Council, including organization of side events.
  • Support advocacy work vis-a-vis UN treaty bodies, especially CESCR, CRC and CEDAW, including having an overview of the review calendar, the preparation of public events and the support to grass roots, national organizations and social movements attending the committees’ sessions.
  • Support communications with UN special procedures related to FIAN's work, such as the Special Rapporteurs on the right to food, water, extreme poverty, among others, specially accompanying delegations from national organizations and social movements in meetings with the special procedures teams.
  • Support the communication with the group of NGOs from Latin America
  • Support advocacy work with the Permanent missions to the UN in Geneva, especially in the context of the UPR.
  • Support the social movements and partners attending the negotiation processes on the Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and on the Binding Instrument on TNCs and other business enterprises with respect to human rights, both in logistics and in the preparation of their statements.
  • Maintain updated information on up-coming events and important developments, participate in events according to the guidance of the team and report back to the team.
  • Prepare communications on activities around the human rights system for FIAN sections and partners worldwide as well as for FIAN`s website.
  • Support monitoring and reporting of Geneva office activities.
  • Carry out logistic and administrative tasks of the office.

A good working knowledge of English and French is required. A working knowledge of Spanish is desirable. An intern should hold a eligible work permit for Switzerland. 

All these tasks are implemented in the framework of FIAN International´s mandate. The intern will be able to gain experience in the area of human rights by supporting the work surrounding standard-setting, monitoring, and advocacy processes. 

The internship will start on March 1st 2019 and last until 31 August 2019.

FIAN will pay an honorary compensation of 500 CHF per month and cover the Geneva transportation ticket during the period of the internship.
