The Global Campaign for Agrarian Reform is an initiative of FIAN and La Via Campesina, a world-wide network of peasant organisations and landless peoples' organisations.
Since 1999, FIAN and La Via Campesina have been leading the Global Campaign for Agrarian Reform. The Global Campaign serves as a platform for promoting effective agrarian reform in countries with highly unequal patterns of land ownership. Effective agrarian reform is understood by peasant and landless organisations throughout the world as a bundle of policies that ensure that agricultural land is distributed to landless peasants and smallholders swiftly and equitably.
The fundamental task of the campaign is to assist the already existing national peasant movements struggling for agrarian reform in their own countries and to strengthen them internationally. Moreover, new movements have to be encouraged and promoted.
The Agrarian Reform Campaign pursues three main objectives in order to lend international support to local and national movements for agrarian reform:
The Campaign supports peasant movements on the local level by intervening against violations of the human rights of peasants by disseminating internationally information on local and national movements for agrarian reform
The Campaign promotes the international exchange of experiences by facilitating communication between peasant movements on all continents and assisting them in
voicing their demands.
The Campaign promotes Agrarian Reform as an international priority by lobbying for it with multilateral organisations and international financial institutions by coordinating internationally agrarian reform initiatives and activities by continuously working towards widening the basis of support for the campaign.
