Forcible evictions of peasant families in Mali

Fecha de publicación: 05/02/2010

Heidelberg, 5th of February 2010 - Despite a process pending before national courts and appeals to the authorities by FIAN International, the forcible eviction process of the peasant families of N´Tabacoro in the outskirts of Bamako, Mali´s capital city, goes on.

The situation of the right to adequate food and other human rights of the affected people is alarming. To alert the authorities on this situation and to urge them to comply with their obligations under international human rights law, FIAN International sent a open letter to the President and to concerned ministries on the 19th of January 2010.

So far, no answer has been received and the concerns of the victims as well as of FIAN grow as it is announced that the President of the Republic, his Excellency Amadou Toumani Touré, will officially open the building site on coming Sunday, 7th of January.

FIAN will continue to support the demands of the victims for a due process and respect of their human rights.
